What Foods to Eat on a Low Carb Diet

It is becoming a well known secret that consuming fewer carbohydrates will result in natural weight loss. Eating less carbs is a natural way to lose weight because foods that are low in carbs are provided by nature. Foods that are high in carbs are refined or processed. These processed foods are loaded with sugar, starch, and trans fat. Processed foods are also already broken down, so your body doesn’t have to do the work. Natural low carb foods will force your body to burn fat for energy, rather than the sugar and starch in processed foods. Once your metabolism begins to burn fat instead of glucose, then foods that contain natural sugar and starch can be introduced into your diet.

There are a few “base” foods that one should eat when considering a low carb diet. Of these, complete protein is very important to weight loss and proper bodily function. Digesting complete protein burns more calories than any other food. However, many people get their protein from red meat. Red meat is very high in fat content, and more importantly, carbohydrates. It is integral that a low carb diet consist only of lean meat. A list would include:

-Eggs (Not only a complete protein, but a great way to curb hunger.)

Perhaps the hardest part for many individuals on a low carb diet is giving up sugary foods for vegetables. It is true that your body needs to burn something for energy, and if it is used to burning sugar, then a lack thereof will result in feeling weak or moody. This is a completely natural process as your body is weaned from burning sugar to burning fat. If you can surpass the point of feeling weak or moody, then you will begin to regain your former self as fat becomes your body’s energy source. A list of vegetables that are high in fiber includes:

-Raw Spinach

-Salad Greens

-Collard Greens

-Vegetable Juice (Great alternative to soft drinks.)

Drinking water is also integral for getting the most out of your low carb diet. Drinking the recommended amount of water will help your body to get rid of water weight, and to better synthesis the proteins found in meat and vegetables. This will result in the better building of lean muscles, which will assist in your body’s ability to burn fat. The key to starting a successful low carb diet is to eat meals that consist entirely of vegetables and lean meats.
