Atkins Diet Recipes – Low Carb Ice Cream (IF)

** Recipe included in my new low carb, gluten free cookbook, Low Carbing Among Friends. Please check it out at our website @ http://www.amongfriends.us **

In honor of the coming of summer and my jones’ing for ice cream after running the Minneapolis Marathon last weekend (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI0DA0dkFb8), I wanted to post one of the simplest low carb recipes I have ever come across.

Unlike normal ice cream recipe, which have a lot of air beat into the cream mixture and can double the size, this recipe does not. It is therefore very rich and very good. While it might be listed as a single serving, you very well could share it.

why does atkins limit the amount of heavy cream?  because of the little bit of carbs in there or?  The only carbs i get are in dairy, i keep below 20 grams a day and have had no problem losing weight, i eat a LOT of heavy cream, cream cheese, cheese, eggs, and proteins with most of my calories from fat :)

Looks good, thanks.I used to make my icecream with heavy cream but I found something new. I bought the low carb meal replacement shakes. They are made by Atkins and a couple others. I open it up and pour it in to a ziplock bag and lay it flat in the freezer. They taste good. The Atkins ones are about 140 calories and from 1 to 3 net carbs. The other kind have 100 calories and about the same carbs. Give it a shot. You don't need to add anything. I'm going to try your salt and ice idea with my kids

The reason keto isn't "abused by every ripped person on the planet" is because full glycogen stores make the muscles look plumper. Keto is for BEING healthy not LOOKING "swolle". <–sic

Nearly every hormone in the body (including testosterone) is composed of fat. The brain is almost entirely fat and cholesterol. proper cell function requires fat. The body is built of protein and fats. Nothing in the body made of carbs. Denying your body its basic building blocks is not the way to health.

If you ate "2000 calories a day in pure sugar" your body would quickly become insulin resistant, your pancreas would malfunction, your metabolic rate would plummet, and you would quickly grow obese.

"the whole world of fitness"…just because something is a commonly held belief doesn't make it true.

While it is true you can get ripped by starving the body (while replenishing your glycogen stores with lots of carbs) you won't grow healthy doing it.

Thank you so much for the recipe 🙂 This is so much cost friendlier… I weighed 280 pounds before I started Atkins and I have have tried every diet and exercise out there an this is truly the only thing that worked for me… The results don't lie I am healthier, my body looks great and back to what I looked before I had my children abs and all…

Such a shame the number of people who feel entitled to criticize something they have neither tired, nor researched (clearly). Research has repeatedly shown that low carb works, results last longer, and is healthier than other diets. Referring to "everybody knows" arguments is laughable. "Everybody knows" high protein low fat diets are best? 15 years ago, "everybody knew" that high grain diets were the best. Update your research people! Nobody's forcing you to go LC.

Always glad to help make this way of eating more palatable for everyone. Sometimes it just takes one or two new items to make all difference. I am actually working on another version of this low carb ice cream right now that might even be simpler to do. Stay tuned for the next few weeks for that one.

Sorry you are wrong, and there are loads of studies to demonstrate it. Check out the Misconceptions videos of mine which have the studies and links because this conversation has nothing to do with Low Carb Ice Cream.

The dangers of high-protein are well-known. How long did you stay on the 1000 Calorie Diet? What good did it do for you long term? It was a temporary solution (probably a cut) for a problem. Did the weight stay off for good?

As for fat being burned on Calorie Deficit, I have lost more weight on a diet eating between 3000-4000 Calories with no dramatic change in exercise than one eating strict 1500 Calories. There is much more to weight loss than simply Caloric intake.

In the end it's all about how much you eat, not what you eat. You can consume 2000 calories a day in pure sugar and still lose weight if it's below your maintenance.
If there is something the whole world of fitness know is true is that, in order to lose body fat you need to burn more than you consume.
Your comment that glycogen causes the body to never burn fat is just blantly false. If that really was the case every ripped person on this planet would abuse keto and not high protein low calorie.

Strength and Endurance from diets is really a state of placebo. I have tried all kinds of diets when going on a cut. Personally I'd say that the best way to reach ~6-7% body fat is eating high protein in an intermittent fasting fashion for around 2600(or 500 below maintenance) calories a day.

The fastest fat loss I've had was when I went on an VLCD where I consumed 1000 calories a day 100% based on protein. Lost around 5 pounds a week, required alot of willpower though

I'm not sure I'm getting the hang of what you're telling. If what you're telling is true the WHOLE bodybuilding and fitness world is wrong. It's widely known that to shred the last amounts of fat while keeping as much lbm as possible you need to preform heavy strength training and consume atleast ~200 grams of protein a day.

Fat is burned when your on a caloric defecit and in a state which causes your body to preserve muscles, meaning eating high protein and lifting heavy.

As for keeping enough carbs for their to be glycogen is self-defeating as the body will never resort to burning stored fat at that point. Ketogenic diets aren't for everyone, but I have never had more energy, more strength, more endurance than I have had on a low carb diet. Cycling between a keto diet and carb-based or worse protein-based diet is the worst situation IMO as you never achieve the acclimation and not able to be sustained long term.

Sorry, your facts are misstated. Low Carb or Ketogenic diets have been proven to be preservative of muscle mass rather than consume lean body mass. Said otherwise, many low carbers see their lean body mass increase even while decreasing fat masses, especially as they get closer to goal. That is sometimes the reason those close to goal find the last 5-10 pounds the hardest as they continue to build muscle and lose fat at the same time.

  16. Henrikswanstrom

i'd personally recommend consuming enough carbs for glycogen to be there for energizing muscles and having a stable blood sugar. I've done cuts on both keto and traditional 50% protein, 30% carbs, 15% fat diets. Everything works but keto does have sever side effects in the long run IF you do care about your body fat and your musclemass.

Props for losing 211 pounds however, that's an amazing feat and if Keto really is the only thing you feel work, then stick to it.
